The following tips may help you keep on track so you can avoid the anguish of yo yo diets that just don’t work!
1. Don’t consume too few calories that will lower your total caloric total daily intake too low. Taking in too few calories signals your body to slow your metabolism to survival levels. You’ll find that you’ll be trying to live on a ridiculously low amount of calories. Also, when you start eating normally again, your metabolism stays slow yet you’ve increased your caloric intake. The end result? You’ll experience weight gain even though you are not eating any more than when you started your diet. So, cut your calories a little but burn even more by adding on more physical activity.
2. Don’t skip breakfast. It’s easier to skip breakfast than dinner. But, what happens with no breakfast is that you are starving my lunch time, so you super size your lunch, essentially eating more than if you divided these calories into breakfast and lunch. Breakfast high in fiber and protein can help you stay full and have plenty of energy to do what you need to do.
3. Water, water and more water. To burn calories you need water. To lose weight, you need plenty of water. Studies show that people who drink more water tend to lose more weight. So, skip the sugary, flavored drinks which are easy calorie traps and start drinking water.
4. Remember calcium. Studies show that calcium helps burn fat whereas low calcium level will make produce more fat. Find low fat sources of calcium such as dairy. Calcium supplements do not seem to show as dramatic effect on fat. It is always better to eat your vitamins in your foods than to take supplement pills.
5. Avoid drive-thrus. Studies show that people who use drive-thru service at fast food restaurants at least twice a week gained 10 more pounds than those who did not frequent these establishments. So, go straight home and resist the urge to go to your favorite fast food place and grab your food and add on a milk shake, an apple pie and a chocolate chip cookie.
